KOTA KINABALU: Ten containers loaded with contraband cigarettes and alcohol worth RM1.89mil were seized by Sabah police at an open space near Taman Farmosa along the Bundusan road here recently.
Four suspects, aged between 14 and 37, were also arrested in the operation, jointly conducted by the state Special Branch and Penampang police.
Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Jauteh Dikun said police seized 2,672 cartons of liquor and 190 cartons of assorted cigarette brands during the raid at about 4.30pm on Jan 26.
He said the four suspects comprised a manager, two guards and a driver. The success was due to public information.

The woman was sent to jail on Saturday, as Bihar imposed prohibition of liquor since April 2016.
The woman, one Bulbul Kumari, had 18 bottles of IMFL in her scooty, a random check of vehicles in Mahmood Shah Lane revealed.
Irfan Hussain, a sub-inspector who is investigating the case, told TOI on Sunday, “The liquor was manufactured in Haryana.” He said Bulbul was interrogated for several hours but she did not reveal the source of consignment.

Uttarakhand govt increases excise duty on liquor to 20 pc ANI | Updated: Jan 31, 2021 11:36 IST
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], January 31 (ANI): The Uttarakhand government on Saturday decided to increase the excise duty on domestic and foreign liquor to 20 per cent in the state.
The fee for applications for e-tendering has also been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. The state government has set a revenue target of Rs 3,200 crore from liquor.
Giving information about the new excise policy which was approved in the cabinet meeting held on Saturday, Cabinet Minister, Madan Kaushik said that it was also decided that instead of e-lottery, allotment of liquor shops will be done through e-tendering.

The town of Ellington completed a survey of residents in 2018 to get input on its 10-year master plan for the town.
The survey indicated that it’s all about the farms in Ellington. It seems most people living there said they really like them - 85% of those surveyed said they either strongly or somewhat agree that preservation of farmland should be a top priority in Ellington.
